Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley has one-way traffic because of emergency work. This closure will last until April 1 at 3:59 p.m.
     
  • One lane of northbound Highway 17 north of Scotts Valley will be closed during the day for vegetation work the week of Monday, March 9.
     
  • A traffic incident was reported at the intersection of Seascape Blvd. and Dolphin Dr in CORD-County Roads at 6:59 a.m. today.
     

Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department is currently accepting public comments on a zoning application for 214 Beach Drive, where the project proposes to renew a permit for a two-bedroom vacation rental in an existing single-family home. If approved, the renewal would allow overnight stays of up to 30 days at a time and extend the permit’s expiration date from July 6, to July 6, 2031. Residents who wish to provide input must submit their comments before the public comment period closes on March 18. (view application)
     

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The property at 628 Vista Del Mar Dr, Aptos 95003-4818, was cited for building code violations under case number NV25230 after it was found that construction activities had begun before the required permits were approved and issued. This violation, first cited on April 7, 2025, involved unauthorized construction work, which is not permitted under local building codes. County officials have confirmed that the issue has now been addressed, and they are currently monitoring the property to ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant regulations.

  • A new business named LINDA ROSE DESIGN WORKS was registered at 8050 Soquel Dr Ste D, Aptos CA 95003 on March 2. The business was registered by The Meltzer Company as a corporation.

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Marianne’s Seacliff at 218 State Park Dr, Aptos, passed a county health inspection on March 6 with no critical issues.
     
  • Deer Park Wine & Spirits at 783 Rio Del Mar Blvd., Aptos, passed a county health inspection on March 9 with no critical issues.
