Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The property at 958 30th Ave., Santa Cruz, was cited on January 8, in Code Compliance Case NV25326 for building code violations related to unpermitted structures that were over height, oversized, or did not meet required setbacks. These violations meant that certain structures on the property were built without the necessary permits, exceeded allowable height or size limits, and/or were constructed too close to property lines, in violation of local zoning and building regulations. The county has confirmed that the code violation has now been addressed, and officials are currently monitoring the property to ensure ongoing compliance.

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • Both southbound lanes on Highway 9 at Graham Hill, near 10395 Soquel Dr in Aptos, are closed because of road and weather conditions. PG&E is directing one-way traffic in the northbound lane. The southbound lanes are expected to stay closed until the morning today.

  • There is one-way traffic on South Highway 9 at Lorenzo Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley because of emergency work. This is expected to end at 3:59 p.m. on April 1.

  • One lane is closed on North Highway 9 at Encinal Street in the Westside/Downtown area because of shoulder work. The closure will last until 3:01 p.m. on February 28.
