Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • The property at 506 Soquel San Jose Rd, Soquel, which was first cited for building code violations on December 14, 2022, under case number NV24828, has now resolved these issues. The violations included the construction of an unpermitted Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and a greenhouse in the rear yard, both of which involved electrical and plumbing improvements without the necessary permits. The property owner has addressed these violations and is now required to pay assessed fees to the county. This resolution marks the end of a significant compliance process, ensuring that all construction on the property meets local building codes and regulations.

  • The property at 302 Porter St, Soquel, which was cited for building code violations under case number NV25086, has now addressed the issues identified in the Notice and Order issued on May 24, 2024. The violations included the unauthorized commercial use of the property without the required development and use permits, as well as the operation of an illegal cannabis business. Local authorities have confirmed that the necessary corrective actions have been taken, and the county is actively monitoring the property to ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant regulations.

Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Santa Cruz reports both those who have passed the inspections and those that the county deems to have a “major” issue. The county’s full ongoing report can be accessed here.

  • Areperia831 at 2800 S Rodeo Gulch Dr, Soquel, passed a county health inspection on Jan. 9 with no critical issues.

  • Erika Tauriello Catering at 2800 S Rodeo Gulch Rd Unit A, Soquel, passed a county health inspection on Jan. 9 with no critical issues.
