Property development

  • The Santa Cruz County Planning Department is currently accepting public comments on a zoning application for a project at 312 Oceanview Drive, but will stop accepting comments after July 20. The project involves a proposal to renew an existing permit for a three-bedroom vacation rental at this address. If approved, the renewed permit would continue to allow overnight lodging for periods of up to 30 days at a time. Residents who wish to share their input on the Vacation Rental Renewal Permit must submit their comments before the July 20 deadline. (view application)
     

Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • Traffic lights were not working at the intersection of Highway 9 and Graham Hill Rd in San Lorenzo Valley. As of 8:55 p.m., the signals were still out and there was heavy traffic in the area. The issue was reported yesterday.
     
  • There will be alternating lane closures in both directions on Highway 9 at Pool Drive in San Lorenzo Valley because of bridge work. This will continue until April 30, 2027, at 6:59 a.m.
     
  • Highway 9 at Cascade Avenue in San Lorenzo Valley has one-way traffic due to ongoing work. This is expected to end at 7:01 a.m. on August 31.
     
  • There is one-way traffic on South Highway 9 in the San Lorenzo Valley due to electrical work. This closure will last until 6:01 a.m. on July 15.
     
  • A lane on Highway 9 at Kirby Street in San Lorenzo Valley is closed for asphalt paving. The closure will last until July 16.
     
  • South Highway 1 at Route 129 in Watsonville / Pajaro is facing closures for Gore excavation. The closure is expected to end at 2:59 p.m. on July 13.
     
  • A lane is closed on east and west SR-129 at Highway 1 in Watsonville and Pajaro because of curb, gutter, and sidewalk work. The closure will last until July 13.
     

Farmers’ market Sunday

The Corralitos Farm & Garden Market is a small, friendly, open-air market made up of local farmers and gardeners who grow within about a five-mile radius of Corralitos. Seasonally is has strawberries, blueberries, cherries, lemons, tomatoes, herbs, squash, potatoes, carrots, peas, beets, and avocados, as well as a variety of other fruits, vegetables, lettuces and salad greens. Bakers offer treats, along with a table full of beautiful potted flowers. You may find expertly handmade natural soaps, and homemade jams and preserves.

Community crime report

  • A person was arrested on charges of trespassing, which means occupying property without permission. The incident happened near the 1500 Block of Freedom Blvd., Watsonville, at 3 a.m. on July 9. The person was taken to Santa Cruz County Jail. (source)
