Property development

• On Aug. 20, the Santa Cruz County Planning Department formally approved a zoning application for a residential project at 209 Pioneer Rd. in Watsonville. The approved plans call for a 90-square-foot pantry addition at the rear of the existing single-family home, along with relocating the laundry room. The remodel will update the kitchen, add a bathroom in the former laundry area, and install a new trussed roof over the living, family, dining, and kitchen spaces, covering 870 square feet. The project also includes a reduction of the standard agricultural buffer setback, as the new development will be approximately 28 feet from the north property line adjacent to commercial agriculture (CA-zoned) land. After completion, the total heated area of the residence will be 1,674 square feet. All work will comply with current California Building, Fire, Energy, and Green Building Codes, and will be subject to required inspections and special construction measures as outlined in the application. • A person was arrested near the 2900 block of Freedom Boulevard, Watsonville, at 7 a.m. on Aug. 24 after police received an alert about a stolen vehicle. Officers found the stolen vehicle and discovered the person in possession of it, along with a suspected crystal substance.
