Roadwork is affecting traffic in the region

  • A traffic hazard was reported today on Highway 17 Northbound at Laurel in Scotts Valley. The California Highway Patrol conducted a traffic break from Sugarloaf to handle the situation.
     
  • A black Toyota Tacoma rolled over and landed about 16 feet off the road on its roof near the entrance to Big Creek Lumber on Highway 1 in Bonny Doon/Davenport. The incident was reported as a non-injury collision, and the vehicle was found on its side. A wrecker was needed to tow it from a 20-foot embankment. The solo occupant was out of the vehicle, and there was no road blockage. The incident was reported today.
     
  • The southbound lanes of Highway 1 in Capitola/Soquel are facing closures for road excavation. This closure will continue until 6:30 a.m. on August 29.
     
  • Long-term projects: – On Sims Road and La Madrona Drive, from Brook Knoll Road to 600 La Madrona Drive, a single lane is closed for a pipeline project. Traffic control is in place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily until February 2026. – Richmond Drive and Portola Drive at 24th Avenue are experiencing road closures due to a pump station upgrade project. Expect traffic delays and lane closures from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. Additional construction will occur on April 12-13 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
     

Property code violations

County officials cite property owners for issues such as substandard housing, illegal uses of buildings, property maintenance, abandoned appliances or furniture, construction without permits, and other issues that affect public safety and quality of life.

  • A code violation notice has been issued for the property at 901 Dolores St., Santa Cruz 95062-4657, under case number NV25263. The violation pertains to “unpermitted construction,” as detailed in the “CODE COMPLIANCE CASE(S)” section of the Parcel Research Report. This indicates that construction work was conducted on the property without securing the required permits from local authorities, which is a breach of building regulations. Residents and property owners are reminded of the importance of obtaining all necessary permits before commencing any construction work to ensure compliance with local building codes.
     
  • A code violation notice has been issued for the property located at 2603 Mattison Ln, Santa Cruz 95062-1926, under case number NV25264. The violations identified include the presence of multiple unpermitted accessory structures on the property, which are possibly being occupied. Additionally, a travel trailer on the premises has been found to be connected to utilities without proper authorization. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about local building codes to ensure compliance and avoid similar issues.
