The summer tourism forecast leads off Jessica M. Pasko’s weekly look at local business. High gas and jet fuel prices could prompt more Californians to scale back vacation plans in favor of closer destinations, which could boost tourism in Santa Cruz County this summer, officials say.

With the June 2 primary approaching, the Lookout Editorial Board weighs in on the race to represent District 4 on the Santa Cruz City Council in our Community Voices opinion section. Seeing strengths and limitations of both incumbent Scott Newsome and challenger Hector Marin, the board endorses Newsome, if not emphatically.

A proposal to relocate Renaissance High to the Duncan Holbert School campus in Watsonville will be under discussion at Wednesday evening’s meeting of Pajaro Valley Unified School District‘s governing board. Teachers and staff at both schools, which each serve marginalized student populations, are in an uproar, Hillary Ojeda reports.
