Tuesday’s meeting of the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors leads us off, with supervisors directing staff to draw up an ordinance to allow on-site smoking lounges at local cannabis dispensaries. They also moved forward on a proposal allowing cannabis growers to open their operations to tours, consumption and sales.
An effort by the Harm Reduction Coalition of Santa Cruz County to get state approval for a new syringe-distribution program is drawing opposition from a neighborhood group, Tania Ortiz reports. The Grant Park Neighborhood Association Advocates had previously sued the state to stop the HRC program.
Jessica M. Pasko takes the pulse of local business in her weekly roundup, reporting that Brew Cruz, a popular brewery tour business, is putting on the brakes after 10 years in business.

Santa Cruz County supervisors advance seismic shifts to cannabis consumption rules
The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday told cannabis division staff to draw up an ordinance allowing on-site cannabis lounges. The supervisors are expected to take their first vote on the new rules on Dec. 10. If passed, a second vote would likely come sometime in January, with the lounges becoming legal 30 days later.
