I spoke to realtors and mortgage advisors on the county’s latest housing numbers, which show a jump in both home sales and available properties. However, some typically all-cash buyers appear to be taking out mortgages to keep more cash on hand amid economic uncertainty.

Ashley Palma-Jimenez writes that the City of Santa Cruz has completed the repairs to the end of the wharf after it collapsed in December 2024. It will hold a celebration on April 29, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., on the south end of the wharf.

In Lookout’s Community Voices opinion section, Pleasure Point resident Nikki Hotvedt writes about a proposed female surfer statue in the area. She says although there is wide support for it, she is against the proposed location and believes the approval process has moved too fast.

Santa Cruz County home sales tick up as more look to invest in real estate

The Santa Cruz County housing market began to heat up in March, as usual, with home sales and inventory both ticking up noticeably. Realtors say that some high-end buyers have shifted their perspective, opting to take out mortgages instead of paying all cash, in order to maintain their liquidity among geopolitical and economic uncertainties.
