The pro-Palestine encampment at UC Santa Cruz’s Quarry Plaza is into its second week, with Hillary Ojeda reporting that although organizers and UCSC administrators have been negotiating over the protesters’ demands, students say the sides are far apart.

Lily Belli checks in with the new owners of Aptos’ Palapas Restaurant y Cantina, who filled her in on their plans to turn the Seascape Village mainstay into Dos Pescados, with a Mexican seafood focus.

UCSC, protesters begin negotiations but remain far apart as Palestine encampment stretches into second week

UC Santa Cruzโ€™s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter says the group started negotiations with administrators over their list of demands, one week after they set up an encampment on campus. Students say they wonโ€™t leave the Quarry Plaza camp until their demands are met. Details here from Hillary Ojeda.

Restaurateur-chef duo plots transformation of Aptosโ€™ Palapas to Mexican seafood-focused Dos Pescados

Business partners Brandon Smittcamp and chef Trent Lidgey have plans to transform the 34-year-old Palapas Cantina in Seascape into Dos Pescados, an elevated but casual Mexican seafood restaurant. Palapas will close May 19 and aims to reopen as Dos Pescados in June. Lily Belli has the update.
