Hi friends,

Would the world be a better place (or not) if we had an ethnically oriented celebration as prominent (and cartoonishly oversimplified) as St. Patrick’s Day every month? Discuss, over a few green-tinted beers. Cheers to the Irish!

Now, on with the show.

Big news from up on campus: The UC Santa Cruz Quarry Amphitheater is welcoming the immortal funk legend George Clinton and his band Parliament/Funkadelic for a big show April 26. Elsewhere, wry and witty Texas troubadour James McMurtry will play live at the Rio on June 12. Meanwhile, wry and witty Mississippi troubadour Paul Thorn comes to Felton Music Hall on July 23. Emo-punk pioneers Sunny Day Real Estate land at The Catalyst on Sept. 10. Reggae legends Black Uhuru come to Moe’s Alley on Sept. 13. The Humanities Institute at UC Santa Cruz hosts an evening dedicated to writers’ experiences with disability at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center on April 6. The celebrated Celtic music duo Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas is set to perform at Kuumbwa on Oct. 10. A group called the Jenner Fox Band presents a tribute to the catalogue of the great Paul Simon in Felton on May 16. Pop/R&B singer/songwriter Emily King comes to the Rio on June 1. And their name suggests that they are interested in a bit more than just dancing – the San Francisco shoegaze band LSD & the Search for God is set to play Felton Music Hall on April 17.
