Hi friends,

Enjoy that pumpkin pie this week, and let’s figure out a way to have all that Thanksgiving gratitude spill over into the rest of the year. The new year’s going to be a wild ride. Let’s greet it with the joy of the grateful. Happy Thanksgiving!

Now, on with the show.

You know her from The Pixies and you know her from The Breeders. Now, she’s releasing her debut album as a solo name. The great Kim Deal will perform live at the Rio on March 21. Also at the Rio, on Feb. 14, will be stand-up comic Lucas Zelnick. Fans of 1990s pop will surely remember the eccentric Canadian combo Crash Test Dummies (whose most well-known hit, “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm,” had no vowels). They’ll play Feb. 5 at Felton Music Hall. Also at Felton for a double bill Feb. 14-15 is the Dead cover band Jerry’s Middle Finger. The great jazz guitarist Bill Frisell brings his new band (which features Santa Cruz’s own Kenny Wollesen) to the Kuumbwa Jazz Center on May 16. And the twin Pink Floyd tribute shows we announced last week at the Santa Cruz Civic have been postponed. We’ll alert you to the new dates when they’re announced.

Be sure to check out Lookout’s carefully curated and constantly updated planning guide, Down the Line, for the staggering riches and amazing choices awaiting Santa Cruz audiences. It’s our look ahead at the best shows, concerts and events through the rest of the year at clubs, stages and venues all over the county.
