Bike Santa Cruz County is accepting nominations for its “Wheelie Awards,” which will recognize efforts to improve the safety and awareness of cycling in Santa Cruz County.

Winners will be announced at the organization’s annual “Wheels In Motion” celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Woodhouse Brewing, which will also feature food, beverages, raffles and live music.

Amelia Conlen, chair of Bike Santa Cruz County’s board, said that award categories have been expanded this year to “accommodate the expanded interest in cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly way to move through our county.”

The organization is seeking nominations from the public of people to be recognized for “Advocacy,” public support of a particular cause or policy related to biking in Santa Cruz County; “Community Building,” bringing the community together, hosting bike-related events; “Education,” educating and engaging with the youth or adults; “Infrastructure,” a cycling, multipurpose trail, or complete-streets facility completed and operational after Jan. 1, 2023; and “Business Champion,” a Santa Cruz County business that is providing exceptional support to the biking community.

Nominations can be submitted via the Bike Santa Cruz County website,  www.bikesantacruzcounty.org, where tickets to the Nov. 17 celebration can also be purchased — at $50 to $60 for adults, $20 for youth and free for children under 6.
