A power outage caused by an equipment issue at a Pacific Gas & Electric substation near Dominican Hospital in Live Oak left nearly 18,500 Santa Cruz County residents without power Friday afternoon.

Power was restored by 4:15 p.m., according to PG&E spokesperson Stephanie Magallon.

The outage, first reported at 3 p.m., stretched along the county’s coastline, from Davenport south to Aptos. Residents of Capitola and Pleasure Point were not affected by the outage.

Magallon told Lookout that crews are working to switch to a different power source to determine what caused the issue at the substation on Houts Drive.
