The annual Computer Science Education Week Community Nights will return on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and Thursday, Dec. 11, with the theme “Powering Possibility.”

The free events in Watsonville and Santa Cruz, hosted by the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, are open to K-12 students, parents and community members to explore hands-on activities that showcase opportunities within the computer science field, such as robotics, unplugged coding games, introductory programming, web development and digital arts. Attendees at Tuesday’s event at Watsonville High School – on which the COE is partnering with Pajaro Valley Unified School District – will be able to tour the ESports Lab, where students can get connected directly to college scholarships and careers in computer science.

The events also present an opportunity for local industry professionals and educators to share insights into how computer science skills translate into careers across STEM fields.

Tuesday’s event will take place at Watsonville High School from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Thursday’s happens at the Santa Cruz Museum of Arts and History also from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
