Following the partial collapse of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, Santa Cruz city officials are asking residents to report wharf-related debris sightings and information.
The mass of debris from the wharf, which broke during massive swells on Dec. 23, has continued to wash ashore on local beaches, leading the City of Santa Cruz to ask the community to help with cleanup efforts.
City officials are asking residents to share photos and locations of any wharf debris they might spot onshore, while also warning beachgoers to avoid touching or disturbing any wharf debris. The city also says people should avoid using debris for fires or playing near or around debris out of safety concerns.
Residents can send their reports and requests to remove debris to reportdebris@santacruzca.gov. The city said it will respond only to reports of wharf-related debris.
Anyone who finds wharf-related commemorations, memorial benches or memorabilia can contact Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation at recreationevents@santacruzca.gov or 831-420-5270.
