The City of Santa Cruz is nearing completion of its planned repairs to the municipal wharf, restoring about 40 feet of the section that was swept away in a storm in December 2024. The city is also moving forward with longer-term plans for the historic structure that could begin as early as this fall.

One dead after van drives off Santa Cruz Wharf on Sunday morning
One person is dead after a vehicle drove off the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf on Sunday morning. Crews pulled the sole occupant from the vehicle and transported the victim to Dominican Hospital, where they later passed away. A dog that was rescued from the water is expected to survive and is with the county’s animal control staff.
