Following the resignation of a longtime district board member, Santa Cruz City Schools is asking the public for interested candidates to fill the open seat, which represents the Capitola area.
Santa Cruz City Schools is asking qualified candidates to consider applying for an open school board seat following a resignation of a longtime member.
Patricia Threet, trustee of Area 7, which spans the Capitola area, resigned after serving for 14 years.
Superintendent Kris Munro, in a statement, thanked Threet “for her thoughtful questions and her informed leadership.”
“Her knowledge, her patience and her commitment to the children of our community has enriched the student experience for our students,” she said.
The district plans to make a provisional appointment to replace Threet, and the selected candidate will serve through the rest of her term, which expires at the end of 2028.
Applicants have until 5 p.m. on Sept. 17 to submit an application, found here. Munro will then hold an orientation for the candidates at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. Finally, the governing board will interview candidates and vote on an appointment during a special public board meeting on Sept. 29. The district’s school board is made up of seven members and three student trustees. Five of the seats, not including Threet’s, were up for election this fall, but the five incumbents ran unopposed and will be appointed in lieu of election. They will not appear on the ballot.
