Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District CEO Corey Aldridge has been appointed to the board of directors of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the agency announced in a news release.
Aldridge, who took over Metro after predecessor Michael Tree unexpectedly left the organization in February 2024, was nominated last month for a three-year term with the international nonprofit organization that represents the interests of North American public transportation, including advocating for federal support and driving innovation.
As Metro CEO, Aldridge assumed control over the Reimagine Metro initiative, championing service changes to improve the ride experience and increase ridership by 2027. Aldridge backed initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, such as adding hydrogen buses as Metro transitions to a zero-emissions fleet, helped facilitate the development of new and more frequent bus routes to improve mobility, and supported the construction of affordable housing at Metro-owned transit centers.
Aldridge’s position on the 25-member APTA board will be formally voted upon Sept. 13 at the upcoming TRANSform Conference in Boston.
