To respond to community health concerns related to air quality and to celebrate the start of the first Week Without Driving campaign, the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District is again participating in California Clean Air Day by offering free fares countywide, including trips on the Highway 17 Express and ParaCruz, next Wednesday, Oct. 1.

“At Metro, we’re committed to protecting our planet by providing sustainable transportation options for all,” CEO Corey Aldridge said in a media release. “That’s why we encourage our community to take part in initiatives like California Clean Air Day and Metro’s One Ride at a Time Program, both of which strengthen our connection to the Monterey Bay and the health of our community.”

California Clean Air Day is a nonprofit statewide program founded on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to better community health. Metro encourages community members to take take actions such as riding public transit, participating in meetings remotely, planting a tree or garden, food composting and buying local produce.
