Santa Cruz police arrested a Watsonville man Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run this week on Highway 1.

Arturo Guerrero, 32, was charged with driving with a suspended license, on top of the felony hit-and-run charge.

The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. Monday, when a vehicle traveling north on Highway 1 at the intersection of River Street hit a 42-year-old pedestrian crossing the roadway within the crosswalk. The pedestrian’s injuries were not life-threatening, and the victim was taken to a nearby trauma center.

Guerrero fled the scene, prompting a police investigation. Officers interviewed witnesses and reviewed a number of automatic license plate readers, which led them to identify Guerrero. He was arrested at his Watsonville home on Tuesday and taken into custody.
