District 5 Santa Cruz County Supervisor Monica Martinez will hold a state of the roads town hall on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Highlands Park Senior & Community Center in Ben Lomond.

During the event, a panel of representatives from the Santa Cruz County public works department, the county Office of Response, Recovery & Resilience and state transit agency Caltrans will give an update on current projects to improve local roadways, future priorities and tools for reporting problems.

The condition of roads has been an ongoing issue in District 5, which contains a large swath of the Santa Cruz Mountains and other areas heavily damaged by the 2020 CZU wildfires and past storms. Yet the cash-strapped county has little money to help address the problem. A 2024 civil grand jury report found that 63% of county roads are in poor or failed condition, with many of those in District 5. Martinez made balancing proactive repairs and emergency fixes one of her priorities in her campaign for supervisor last year
