Emily’s Bakery closes after 41 years on the Westside
A Santa Cruz mainstay since 1982, Emily’s Bakery closed at the end of July, with a sign at the Mission Street location saying that owners Emily Reilly and her husband, Robert Nahas, have retired.

Felton’s Grove Cafe closed after a fire, expects to reopen this weekend
The Grove Cafe and Bakery will be closed for several days following a Saturday night kitchen fire. Thanks to a bystander’s quick response, the restaurant sustained only smoke damage.
Five-star dive bars: Max Turigliatto is breathing new life into Santa Cruz’s watering holes
In 2019, local business owner Max Turigliatto transformed the Watering Hole, a neglected dive bar off of Mission Street in Santa Cruz, into a “five-star dive bar” for the Westside community. Now, he plans to open the Alley Oop in the former Poet & Patriot, and looks to put his stamp on downtown and a growing Cedar Street entertainment corridor.
