What better way to wrap up summer than with a stein in hand and a salty snack on the side? Collective Santa Cruz’s Extra Tasty series closed out the season in delicious style with Super Salty, Hella Malty Taste Güd Fest, an Oktoberfest themed festival, hosted at the Westside Humble Sea Brewing Co. – and Lookout Members got the VIP treatment. Before the event opened to the public, Lookout’s own Food & Drink Correspondent, Lily Belli, led members on a private, flavor-packed tour celebrating Santa Cruz’s finest briny bites and bold brews.

A variety of local businesses participated in the event experience. This tasty adventure kicked off with a salted iced cacao latte from the crew at Coffee Conspiracy, setting the perfect buzz for what was to come. Next up was a crispy, golden stop at Scrumptious Fish and Chips, sampling fresh local fish and chips, meeting the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch sustainability standard.Following that British classic, Tony’s House of Smoke was next. This renegade smokehouse and popup from Santa Cruz served Lookout’s members a succulent pastrami sandwich and caramelized banana pudding. Talia Damon, owner of Square Cakes, an online bakery business, then served the tour malted pretzel crunch brownies, proving sweet and salty really is the ultimate duo. The tour came to a conclusion with Humble Sea Brewing Co.’s own Taste Güd lager and a Pacific Cookie Company Almond Joe that tied the whole salty, malty experience together.

Events like this are a part of Lookout’s commitment to offering special experiences that aim to bring the community of Santa Cruz closer to the people and stories that make our county so deliciously unique. A huge thank you to our participating members– we loved seeing you there! And stay tuned for more food and drink events to come, with our very own Lily Belli of course.
