How can you really beat picking organic strawberries on one of the most scenic coastal roads in California with the ocean as your backdrop? What if I told you that a strawberry farm also made some of the most delicious baked goods and jams you’ll ever have? And it’s all on the honor system at their adorable, old-timey farm store? I challenge you to find another place that’s just like Swanton Berry Farm. Not only is the location gorgeous and the berries luscious, but it was also the first all-union organic farm in the country. Whenever I have visitors from out of town, my to-do list includes a drive along West Cliff Drive then up Highway 1 to Davenport and a visit to this special little farm. To this native East Coaster, it feels like the quintessential Northern California experience I dreamed of long before moving here.

After a day of work, I feel like I have to get in the gym for at least a little bit, even if it’s a little late. Sure, I could go in the morning before work, but I’m honest with myself and have accepted that I’m not built for that. Anyways, Toadal Fitness is about as good as it gets to me. Each of its facilities has cardio machines, free weights, equipment for body-weight exercises and much more, including a variety of classes you can sign up for. The Westside location probably has the largest footprint, but you’ll have all your exercise needs met no matter which location you frequent.
