Quick Take
The Santa Cruz Public Libraries are searching for a community member to serve as the new poet laureate. The honorary role entails spreading messages about the value of creative expression, uplifting diverse voices and perspectives, encouraging new connections among county residents and increasing access to cultural resources.
From Oct. 15 through Nov. 15, Santa Cruz Public Libraries will accept applications for the county’s poet laureate position. This effort is a collaboration among the county Department of Parks, Open Spaces and Cultural Services, Arts Council Santa Cruz County and Poetry Santa Cruz.
The poet laureate position is honorary and represents both the community and the county. Expectations for the role involve elevating poetry throughout the county, spreading messages about the value of creative expression, uplifting diverse voices and perspectives, encouraging new connections among county residents and increasing access to cultural resources.
A community panel will help select the new poet laureate, who will then be officially appointed by the county board of supervisors.
Those interested in applying can submit applications and supporting materials through the online form on the libraries’ website. Information and the application form are also available in Spanish here.
Anyone who may be unable to apply online can download a PDF of the complete application or pick up a copy at any Santa Cruz Public Libraries branch. Please also note that all supporting files must be included for the application to be considered complete.
