Because it’s more than a ride. It’s a lifeline.
Every week in Santa Cruz County, older adults and people with disabilities miss critical doctor’s appointments, skip meals, or go days without meaningful connection—not because they want to, but because they don’t have a ride.
At the Volunteer Center, we believe no one should be stuck at home when a caring neighbor could make all the difference. That’s where you come in.
Whether it’s a lift to the grocery store, a beach walk with a seeing-eye dog, or a ride to physical therapy, our volunteer drivers are changing lives—one ride at a time.

Here’s why it matters and why we’d love to have you behind the wheel:
1. You’ll change a life with just one ride.
What seems like a simple errand is often a turning point for someone else. A ride to the doctor might mean catching a serious issue early. A ride to a social group might be someone’s only chance to connect that week.
2. You set the schedule. We do the rest.
Drive your own car and choose when you’re available. Whether it’s once a week or a few times a month, we’ll match you with someone who needs you—when you’re ready.
3. Mileage reimbursement provided.
We take care of the miles—you take care of the smiles.
4. You’ll make real connections.
You’re not just helping someone get somewhere. You’re showing up as a trusted, friendly presence. Drivers often say they get as much out of the experience as the riders do.
5. You’ll keep Santa Cruz County connected.
Transportation is about more than logistics—it’s about equity, dignity, and making sure no one is left behind. When you volunteer, you’re part of something bigger than yourself.
