Santa Cruz County will receive $500,000 to help expand its litter cleanup and community beautification efforts.

The county has received $300,000 from the Clean California local grant program through the California Department of Transportation, which supports community cleanups and beautification statewide. The other $200,000 is from an anonymous donor, according to a media release

Currently, the county invests more than $1.4 million annually in litter abatement services and partnerships with nonprofit organizations such as Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County for local cleanup projects.

“This funding will expand our ability to reduce litter, address illegal dumping and strengthen environmental stewardship efforts to preserve and protect our environment for future generations,” county planning director Matt Machado said in the release.
