Detectives arrested a Watsonville teenager this week in connection with a double homicide that took place last October.
Watsonville deputies responded to reports of an early-morning shooting around 700 Carlton Rd. on Oct. 4.
There, deputies discovered two young men suffering from gunshot wounds and attempted to administer aid. Despite their efforts, both 21-year-old Jeremiah Rios Aguilera and 21-year-old Giovanni Lopez were pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation into the men’s deaths, detectives from the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office identified their suspect as an 18-year-old man from Watsonville. On Thursday, sheriff’s deputies, in collaboration with with the Sacramento Police Department, located and arrested the teen in Sacramento.
Since the suspect was 17 years old when the crime took place, his identity has been withheld from the public. He is currently in the Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall Detention Facility on charges that allege two counts of murder.
