Santa Cruz native Ashtyn Davis was released by the 49ers on Sunday but brought back less than 24 hours later, signing a one-year contract after San Francisco placed two players on injured reserve. The 29-year-old safety is now back on the roster as the 49ers prepare for their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia.

The San Francisco 49ers released the Santa Cruz native Sunday as they trimmed their roster, but brought Davis back Monday, signing the veteran safety to a one-year contract.
The move came after the 49ers placed cornerback Nate Hobbs and linebacker Nick Martin on injured reserve, creating room for Davis and punter Corliss Waitman to return to the roster.
Davis originally signed with San Francisco in June after spending the first six seasons of his NFL career with the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. The 29-year-old has appeared in 84 NFL games, including 34 starts, with 40 tackles, nine interceptions and 19 passes defended.
Now Davis is back with the 49ers as the team prepares for its Sept. 10 season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia.
