We all feel the heartache of the homeless camp sweeps, all the more so when there are insufficient shelter beds for all these people. Much has been written and spoken about what more we can and should be doing to house everyone in need.
I’m wondering how we should be thinking about the folks who refuse to accept any of our shelter options: They have a dog, they want to keep their drugs and alcohol, they don’t want to have to live under rules.
As a community, what do we do with this conundrum?
