Here they are, nine necessary know-abouts for the week ahead. It’s the Spirit-Halloween-is-open-for-business B9:
- Music, poetry and the written word reign as Santa Cruz’s Writers of Color flex their literary muscle at the MAH next week.
- Get up, get out and get after the wonderfully diverse Open Studios art tour, this weekend with artists from north of the yacht harbor.
- What?!? Taylor Swift in Santa Cruz? Uh, not exactly. But fashion writer Sarah Chapelle is in town to talk Tay-Tay’s style and fashion sense.
- If there’s one thing that comic Doug Benson loves more than weed, it’s movies. Both are front and center in his comedy show “Doug Loves Movies,” Saturday at — you guessed it — 4:20 p.m.
- Jenny Scheinman is a special talent who emerged from the remote reaches of Humboldt County to become an acclaimed violinist bridging the gaps between jazz and American folk.
- Dance artist Tom Brady again presents his “Man in the Box” performance, which gets more and more challenging as he gets older, both physically and emotionally.
- Did you know Santa Cruz has a sister city in Japan? Santa Cruz and Shingu celebrate 50 years of sisterhood in a swanky, internationally themed party at the MAH.
- If you know the Infamous Stringdusters, you gotta be stoked that two of the ’Dusters — Travis Book and Andy Falco — are coming together to play the best of Jerry Garcia in Felton.
- Downtown Santa Cruz throws back to old-fashioned Americana with the family-friendly and seasonally resonant Harvest Festival on Saturday.
