A concrete pour on the bridge deck of a recently installed girder will result in a full overnight closure of the Fishhook connector at the junction of Highway 1 and Highway 17 in Santa Cruz on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Travelers on northbound Highway 1 will be unable to use the connector to reach southbound Highway 17 or continue their travels on northbound Highway 1.
Signs and traffic control crews will direct motorists to a detour. Travelers on northbound Highway 1 will be directed to take northbound Highway 17 and exit at Pasatiempo Drive, then continue to the Pasatiempo Drive onramp to southbound Highway 17.
Travelers on southbound Highway 1 will be directed to continue south to the Morrissey Boulevard exit, then continue to the Morrissey Boulevard onramp to northbound Highway 1 and take the exit to northbound Highway 17.
Additionally, the Ocean Street/Plymouth Street onramp to northbound Highway 17 will also be closed.
During this overnight closure, crews will install a precast concrete girder that will provide an additional foot of vertical clearance. This girder will replace one previously struck and damaged at this location.
Bridge and girder work near Highways 1 and 17 is expected to be completed in early December, according to the California Department of Transportation.
