I read Lookout’s article about layoffs in Pajaro Valley Unified School District with interest.

As a retired PVUSD employee (a teacher and an administrator), I wonder how much consideration was given to laying off people working at the district office? The building at 294 Green Valley Rd. in Watsonville should be sold. The very last people who should be let go are the teachers who work in classrooms with our future voting residents.

It is already difficult to find dedicated and qualified teaching personnel willing to work for low pay and try to get by in an area that is recognized as the most unaffordable place to live in the United States.

I am in favor of raising taxes and earmarking the money to public education for teacher salaries.
