Capitola police found more than 25 bicycles in an encampment near 41st Avenue and Highway 1, the second such discovery in less than a week in Santa Cruz County.

Officers on foot patrol discovered several encampments in the area last Thursday, the Capitola Police Department said in a post on social media. While there, officers detained five suspects for trespassing and camping in closed areas. Two people were arrested on outstanding warrants for trespassing, theft and narcotics-related charges. Three others were issued warnings.

Police also found over 25 bicycles and related items which they suspect to have been stolen. The items were seized from several encampments.

This comes on the heels of a recent bust by the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office in Live Oak, which recovered over $32,000 worth of stolen bikes and tools

“Make sure to store bikes in safe places, place a tracking device on the bike, save the serial number, and report any thefts to your local law enforcement agency,” Capitola police wrote in the social media post.
