It appears voters have realized that Measure D was grossly misrepresented in terms of cost and environmental impacts. For this reason people are now flooding the zone, as Matt Farrell’s opinion article suggests, to have the rail removed and obtain a walking and bike path.
There is little doubt the rail is dead based on low ridership surveys coupled with ridiculous and unrealistic cost overruns which as everyone knows will continue. The Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission has not been transparent, but has also demonstrated incredible incompetence.
How could they not have realized the trestles needed tremendous rehabilitation? In our neighborhood, people are trying to figure why the RTC keeps pushing this failed agenda.
