This December, the Santa Cruz Symphony invites you to experience a holiday concert unlike any other. On Sunday, December 22, Destiny Muhammad—the self-described “harpist from the hood”—returns to Cabrillo College’s Samper Recital Hall for a powerful performance of Soulful Joy. The show, a blend of jazz, gospel, and storytelling, promises to transport you to a place of soulful celebration.
Soulful Joy first captivated audiences at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco and has become a cherished holiday tradition, selling out year after year. Now, Santa Cruz has the chance to experience this extraordinary performance.
Destiny, joined by her dynamic Sonic Ensemble of Bay Area music masters, will take the stage to create an unforgettable holiday experience. The ensemble includes celebrated musicians Leon Joyce Jr., Tammy Lynne Hall, and Ron Belcher, along with powerful vocalists Leberta Lorál, Nicolas Bearde, and Will Hammond Jr. To add an extra layer of magic, renowned dancer Victor Temple will bring movement and energy to the performance.

Together, they’ll explore the deeper meaning of the holiday spirit through music, sacred movement, and moments of reflection. Whether performing jazz standards or Destiny’s original compositions, the group will turn every piece into a soulful adventure.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this joyful and intimate celebration. The show starts at 2 PM on Sunday, December 22, at Samper Recital Hall at Cabrillo College.
