A house fire claimed the life of one man late last night in the Seascape area of Aptos.

Central Fire units and several ambulances arrived at a house fire on the 1900 block of Seascape Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

While initial reports suggested that two people were trapped in the fire, only one man was home at the time. Firefighters quickly located and pulled out the victim, who was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Despite multiple search attempts, no one else was found in the house. A second resident later returned to the house unharmed. 

The fire burned into the early morning, fueled by an abundance of household goods. According to. A house fire claimed the life of one man late Tuesday night in the Seascape area of Aptos.

According to Central Fire Chief Nigel Miller, dense storage and a high number of household goods kept the fire burning until early this morning. While the cause of the fire is currently unknown, it started on the bottom floor.

Due to the significant structure damage and lethal nature of the fire, arson investigators attended the scene. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. 

The identity of the deceased has not been made public at this time.
