Here, find a curated list of the best food and drink events in Santa Cruz County for the coming week. At the top, I share my picks of unmissable local happenings.
Head to the farm at UC Santa Cruz this Sunday evening for the Farm to Fork benefit, a special fundraising dinner, followed by dancing in the Hay Barn. Enjoy local wine and appetizers while touring the educational farm at the base of campus, followed by dinner at the Hay Barn prepared by Ty Pearce of Capitola’s Busy Bees Cafe and Catering with ingredients from the nearby Chadwick Garden. Tickets are $200 per person – or you can skip dinner and join for just dancing and dessert for $25 per person. Proceeds benefit the Center for Agroecology’s programming and facilities.
Kick off the school year at Cabrillo College with a seven-course farm-to-table feast inspired by Sardinia, an Italian island known for its cuisine, at Pino Alto, Cabrillo’s teaching restaurant inside the historic Sesnon House. The meal and service are provided entirely by students studying culinary and hospitality management and includes antipasti, mussels in myrtle aperitivo, grilled rosemary lamb chops and four other dishes. There are seatings on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and Thursday, Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Reservations are $75 per person, and $95 per person with local wine pairings.
