Bicycle-centered events will be held in Santa Cruz and Watsonville this week.
Go Santa Cruz and Ecology Action will host a Family Biking Lunch and Learn at noon Wednesday at the Civic Auditorium or virtually via Zoom to promote safe biking to school this fall. Topics will include gear, family testimonials, riding through the developmental stages and recommendations for riding with kids safely. Lunch from Zoccoli’s will be provided for all in-person attendees, and free Bell helmets and Blackburn bike lights (a $100 value) are available for all attendees employed by businesses in Santa Cruz County. Register here.
On Saturday, Santa Cruz County Supervisor Felipe Hernandez and Watsonville Mayor Vanessa Quiroz-Carter will lead a community bike ride “aimed at promoting physical and mental health, fighting climate change, and building a stronger community.” It will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at the East Lake Village Shopping Center with a bike check and ride overview, followed by a helmet giveaway. Riders will then set out on either a 2-mile or 6-mile group ride around Watsonville starting at 11 a.m. Afterward, participants will have the chance to eat burritos and discuss road safety with city and county officials.
