A body was recovered from the ocean near Davenport on Monday morning, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Ashley Keehn told Lookout that crews from the sheriff’s office and Cal Fire responded to a report of a body in the water in the Davenport Landing Beach area at around 8:20 a.m. Harbor patrol was requested as well, but was ultimately not needed, as Cal Fire successfully recovered the body.
The body was that of a male, and the individual was pronounced dead on scene, said Keehn. The coroner is currently working to identify the person, notify the family, and determine the cause of death, after which point the sheriff’s office will release the victim’s identity.
