Thursday was the deadline for candidates in the Santa Cruz mayoral and city council races, as well as the District 4 county supervisor and Superior Court judge seats, to file their final pre-election campaign finance disclosures before the June 2 primary.
Candidates in the June 2026 primary election filed their last pre-election campaign finance forms before the June 2 primary on Thursday. Candidates are required to file campaign statements disclosing the contributions they’ve received and the expenditures they’ve made.
Santa Cruz mayoral candidate and longtime politico Ryan Coonerty remains far in front of all other local candidates with over $67,000 raised. District 4 county supervisor incumbent Felipe Hernandez is second with nearly $35,000 raised, and one of his challengers, Tony Nuñez, is third with just over $29,000 raised.

The reports are filed as Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) Form 460s, and apply to all candidates and committees that have raised or spent at least $2,000 in a calendar year.
The first filing covered the period between Jan. 1 and April 18. The most recent filing covers the period from April 19 to May 16. A semi-annual deadline follows on July 31, and covers the period from May 17 through June 30.
The amounts listed are solely cash contributions from individual donors. They do not include loans or non-monetary contributions, and do not include cash expended so far.
The California Secretary of State website has not yet been updated to show filings from Santa Cruz Superior Court judge candidates Byran Hackett and Alisa Thomas. For this reason, they are not included below. Hackett told Lookout that his treasurer would be filing his disclosure form on Thursday.

District 4 county supervisor
Incumbent Felipe Hernandez raised $5,830 in the latest fundraising period and $34,766 in total, with donations going back to 2024. Notable donors include the County Employees Management Association PAC, Friends of the Rail and Trail member Sally Arnold, housing advocate James Weller and Sierra Pacific Synod Director of Finance Systems and Administration Diana Rodriguez.
Tony Nuñez raised $9,024 in the latest fundraising period and $29,046.99 in total. Notable donors include Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board President Carol Turley, Capitola Planning Commissioner TJ Welch, Community Bridges program director Lois Sones, Monterey County Supervisor Glenn Church, La Posta owner Patrice Boyle, Digital NEST CEO Jacob Martinez and City of Watsonville Older Adult Services supervisor Katie Nuñez.
Elias Gonzales raised $1,365 in the latest fundraising period and $7,243 in total. Watsonville City Councilmember Vanessa Quiroz-Carter is a notable donor.
Santa Cruz mayor
Ryan Coonerty raised $17,171 in the latest fundraising period and $67,286 in total, far and away the most of any candidate running for local office. Notable donors include the Democratic Women’s Club of Santa Cruz County, longtime commercial real estate agent William Ow, Allterra Solar CEO James Allen, Coinbase CFO Alesia Haas, Google technical program manager Michael Smith, local developer Joe Appenrodt, Janus Chief Development Officer Angela Malacari-Chestnut, financial advisor firm PP&Co accountant David Doolin, West Coast Community Bank Executive Vice President Frederick Caiocca, Seaside Company Vice President of Operations Tom Canfield and his father, Charles Canfield, Seaside Company CEO Karl Rice, Paystand CEO Scott Bennion, District 2 County Supervisor Kim De Serpa, Idea Architects founder and CEO Douglas Abrams, Nielsen Studios principal Timerie Gordon, Karon Properties agent Nicole Karon and Jimmy Panetta for Congress FEC.
Ami Chen Mills raised $4,023 in the latest fundraising period and $10,687 in total. Notable donors include former Santa Cruz city councilmember Micah Posner, Outside Enterprises CEO Ray Newkirk and Insight Principles Inc. founder Ken Manning.
Gillian Greensite raised $2,515 in the latest fundraising period and $7,204 in total.
Chris Krohn raised $1,050 in the latest fundraising period and $6,702 in total. Outside Enterprises CEO Ray Newkirk is a notable donor.
Joy Schendledecker raised $750 in the latest fundraising period and $3,400 in total.
Santa Cruz City Council District 4
Scott Newsome raised $7,999 in the latest fundraising period and $13,737 in total. Notable donors include Seaside Company Vice President of Operations Tom Canfield and his father, Charles Canfield, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks executive director Bonny Hawley, former Santa Cruz county supervisor Bruce McPherson, Santa Cruz Seaside Company CEO Karl Rice, county analyst Andy Schiffrin, Swift Consulting Services land-use consultant John Swift, former Santa Cruz mayor Cynthia Mathews, former New York Times reporter Charles Duhigg and former Santa Cruz city councilmember Martine Watkins.
Hector Marin did not file a FPPC form 460 by Thursday evening. He filed his disclosure for the previous fundraising period on May 4, just over a week late. He raised $2,450 during that period. Notable donors included Santa Cruz for Bernie and an early member and co-founder of the group, Jeffrey Smedberg.
Santa Cruz City Council District 6
Renee Golder raised $4,946 in the latest fundraising period and $16,605 in total. Notable donors include the Democratic Women’s Club of Santa Cruz County, Seaside Company Vice President of Operations Tom Canfield and his father, Charles Canfield, Seaside Company CEO Karl Rice, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks executive director Bonny Hawley and Swift Consulting services land-use consultant John Swift.
Gabriella Noack did not file a FPPC form 460 by Thursday evening. She filed her disclosure for the previous fundraising period on May 5, just over a week late. She raised $917 during that period. Santa Cruz for Bernie early member and co-founder Jeffrey Smedberg is a notable donor.
