The Capitola Police Department arrested a 21-year-old male last Friday on multiple charges stemming from a fight involving a knife two days earlier.

On March 26, Capitola officers responded to multiple reports of a fight involving a knife. Police detained two individuals, a juvenile and their adult friend, on the scene near Grace Street and 42nd Avenue.

The juvenile victim informed police that they had been robbed by a former acquaintance, who fled on foot before the police arrived. The alleged robbery escalated into a physical fight wherein the acquaintance brandished a knife against the victims, prompting them to try to get away. The juvenile suffered minor injuries during the fight, but neither victim was stabbed or slashed.

The criminal investigations unit soon arrived to aid patrol officers on scene. An ensuing investigation identified the suspect as a 21-year-old male resident of Capitola. The suspect was arrested without incident two days later in the city of Santa Cruz. He was booked into jail on charges of robbery, brandishing a deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon. He was still in custody as of Wednesday morning, when Capitola PD noted the arrest on social media.

“Thank you to the alert community members who called this incident in … if you see something, say something!” the department wrote in the post about the incident. The investigation was ongoing.
