Evacuation warnings lifted for Capitola, Aptos, but more rain and ocean swells on the way

Santa Cruz County officials lifted evacuation warnings for much of the region Thursday afternoon after high tides and huge waves caused flooding and damage to parts of Capitola and Aptos. But they warned that the county is set to see more rain on Friday, followed by another “significant coastal wave event” early Saturday morning.

Capitola woman missing since Dec. 3; boyfriend not cooperating with El Cerrito investigation

Police say Capitola’s Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, 61, has been missing since Dec. 3. Investigators say her boyfriend, Theobald “Theo” Brooks Lengyel, who also goes by Mylo Stone, is considered a person of interest but is not cooperating with authorities. Capitola police are assisting the El Cerrito-led investigation into her disappearance.
