Local internet provider Cruzio has finished its “Equal Access Summits to the Sea” (EAS2C) project, expanding affordable high-speed internet to thousands of residents from Half Moon Bay to Salinas.

The network, funded through a $5.65 million California Public Utilities Commission grant, targets underserved rural and coastal areas that previously had unreliable connections. The new system took 18 months to build out and uses fixed wireless technology to deliver speeds comparable to urban fiber networks at a lower cost.

Cruzio said the project will improve access to health care, education, emergency alerts and business opportunities for low-income communities. For more information about internet availability in your area, check here.

Cruzio is holding an event to celebrate the completion of the project and thank local officials who supported it on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Audrey Stanley Grove, 501 Upper Park Rd. in Santa Cruz. To attend, RSVP here.
