A woman was killed in a car accident early Tuesday morning in Watsonville. Police did not release her name, but said that she was 53 years old and from Royal Oaks, southeast of Watsonville.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to a crash at about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Green Valley Road and Pinto Lake Road in Watsonville. According to a CHP release, a 35-year-old man from Freedom driving a gray 2006 Toyota Camry heading south on Green Valley Road struck the woman, who was walking in the area. The incident remains under investigation.
The woman suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel.
In its release, CHP said it does not currently believe that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident, and no arrest was made.
