The Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation Department kicks off the reopening of Harvey West Pool’s free weekend “Dip in Days” next Saturday, Aug. 16, through Sept. 28. The pool will be open at no cost to the public Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a family-friendly way to cool off this summer and early fall.

To celebrate, Mayor Fred Keeley is set to take the first ceremonial dip at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday during a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at the pool, located at 275 Harvey West Blvd., with the public invited to dive into the pool afterward.

“We’re proud to reopen this beloved facility and invite residents of all ages to dive in, enjoy the water, and celebrate another great Santa Cruz summer,” Keeley said in a media release.

Harvey West Pool closed in 2023 due to critical maintenance needs and a lack of resources necessary to maintain and operate the pool safely. Improvements have been made, such as removing the old boiler system and replacing it with a modern integrated heat-pump system, and resurfacing both pools. Additionally, the pool house lobby has been refreshed and signage updated in an effort to improve the check-in process.

In Tuesday’s media release, the parks department said it expects to launch more activities at the pool later this year; for more information, call 831-420-5270 or email parksandrec@santacruzca.gov.
