The campground at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park will remain closed another year because of construction delays in repairs to make the site compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The 107-site campground located on the east side of the park off Graham Hill Road is usually open from the spring through the fall, but the campground has been closed since last November as the park began upgrading the bathrooms, adding signage and a new drinking fountain.

The park was expected to reopen April 1, before being pushed back to Aug. 1 because of weather delays and supply chain disruptions for the materials needed to complete the job, according to Scott Sipes, head of operations for California State Parks’ Santa Cruz division. On Tuesday, the agency said additional delays forced the campground to remain closed through April 2026.

“Our initial reopening date was a provided timeline from the contractor,” Sipes said.

There were more than 5,200 reservations that will have to be canceled. Disappointed campers will be refunded and have to wait another year to visit. For more information go to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park’s website.
