Come and visit the lovely memorial sign honoring community activist, former five-time Santa Cruz mayor (and Lookout columnist) Mike Rotkin, located on the West Cliff Drive path between the lighthouse and Its Beach. I want to thank Mayor Fred Keeley and Tony Elliot, director of Parks and Recreation, for their support in this meaningful endeavor. This tribute pays homage to Mike’s remarkable legacy as a historic five-time mayor, who led our community during the years 1981-82, 1985-86, 1995-96, 2004-05 and 2009-10.

A passionate socialist-feminist, Mike was not only a dedicated public servant and educator but also a dear friend and political ally to many. The plaque on the memorial sign serves as a powerful reminder of his contributions, inspiring all who pass by to reflect on his achievements for the city and his lasting impact at UC Santa Cruz.

Additionally, I would like to thank the generous donors who contributed (via GoFundMe) and made the memorial sign possible. These donors also contributed to the three tribute picnic tables, at Wilder Ranch State Park, Natural Bridges State Beach and Lighthouse Field State Beach, which help keep Mike’s legacy alive in our community.
