There has been a heartfelt outpouring of kind words about Mike Rotkin from his family and friends. He was a good friend and political ally.
In the 1990s, I attended one of Mike’s classes due to a mix-up in the classroom listing. As a member of the economics program, I was surprised to find myself in his History of Consciousness lecture. That day, he captivated me with his deep compassion and insightful intellect.
Mike, his wife, Madelyn, and I shared many moments while active in the Democratic Party of Santa Cruz County and the Democratic Women’s Club. Even when we had our differences, we always approached each other with respect and understanding.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the family’s GoFundMe to secure a memorial bench along West Cliff Drive and tribute picnic tables in Santa Cruz state parks. His legacy will continue to touch our lives and inspire us.
